Hey! My name is Tay! I was born and raised in upstate New York, and then I lived in Staten Island and Long Island for a few years during university. I recently moved to North Carolina a few years ago, and I’m enjoying the nice beaches here!
My journey to being a UX/UI designer has been a winding one to say the
least. When I went off to community college at sixteen, I was assured that I
wanted to be a social worker in the sex trafficking field. After I finished
my associate in human services I learned that I wanted to help people
through their heavy troubles not as a profession, but throughout my day-to-day life.
My second choice? I decided to major in mathematics at Stony Brook University for my bachelors, but later did a big U-turn and instead graduated with a bachelors in English literature. My goal for myself at the time was to be an English teacher in South Korea since I was a big fan of Kpop. I achieved my goal and headed off to Wirye, Seoul during the worst time in the midst of Covid-19. I have major respect for both social workers and teachers, but you just have intuition when something is meant for you or not.
All of this led me to learning about UX/UI design and Chegg Skills (formerly Thinkful) UX/UI design bootcamp program. It truly feels like this field was meant for me. It mixes helping users, getting to interact with them for surveys and interviews. I loved doing case study research for Human Services as well so being able to conduct psychological and sociological research is so exciting for me! Then also being able to do creative task-based writing for the UI design aspect. Although I’m not a fan of public speaking, I had to do so many as an English major, so it really has prepared be for this field of work. My hobby of doing artistic multimedium arts by hand allows me to have that artistic eye for UI designs as well. So, completing the UX/UI design program with Chegg Skills felt like the last missing piece to achieving my dream job and dream career!
“Expect the unexpected” is an understatement for everybody’s life.
Some people find their passions earlier in life than others, and others find it
through trial and error. I’m thankful to finally find my home in design.
Deep dive into the limitless possibilities.
